Vides i biografies. La poètica de la biografia literària al segle XVIII
Resum
L’objectiu d’aquest article és examinar la naturalesa i l’abast de la modernització de la biografia en el camp de les vides d’escriptors. Per explicar la formació de la biografia literària moderna he comparat les idees sobre el gènere i les vides de poetes castellans de Juan José López de Sedano (1729-1801) amb els principis i mètodes biogràfics i les vides de poetes anglesos de Samuel Johnson (1709-1784). L’anàlisi dels textos d’aquests autors permet detectar canvis significatius en les formes i funcions de la biografia dedicada a escriptors. Alguns canvis són anàlegs en cada cas i d’altres presenten diferències, però es poden agrupar en tres grans fronts: la integració de les vides de poetes en la historiografia literària, l’adaptació de la biografia als principis i mètodes de l’erudició crítica i l’emergència de la crítica biogràfica. Tanmateix, les idees i pràctiques d’ambdós autors revelen la vigència de formes i usos tradicionals del gènere ben entrat el segle XVIII i fan evident que la modernització de la biografia literària es va produir de manera lenta i gradual.
