"Un bel morir tutta la vita onora…" o no: formes de morir dels intel·lectuals de la Grècia antiga en la tradició biogràfica

Resum

Les escenes dels darrers instants de la vida, sovint acompanyades d’anècdotes sucoses i frases memorables, no acostumen a faltar en les biografies dels intel·lectuals —si se’m permet l’anacronisme— ja des de la Grècia antiga. No obstant, les formes de morir d’aquests personatges presenten poca varietat, amb unes característiques ben definides, que es basen, plausiblement, en els exercicis de les escoles de retòrica i que, a més a més, resulten obertament simbòlics: el que determina la forma de la mort i el seu valor social, per a bé o per a mal, és la vida que l’intel·lectual ha portat, el gènere literari que ha conreat principalment o les tipologies de doctrina que ha professat.
