Pedro Espinosa: questions of transmission, critical fortune and historical poetics
Abstract
Our vision of early modern poetry is influenced by different aesthetic views, but also by the problems of transmitting the texts. Both factors depend upon the critical opinion of various authors, as is the case with Espinosa. The discovery of the copy of the lost manuscript by Quirós’ son of Seville, with the text by the poet from Antequera and other Andalusian authors, allows us to review various aspects of poetry and criticism, giving special attention to the problems of the structure of the poem.
