The articulation of space and time in the dramatic sequences of the Calderón’s theater and the realization of the “Calderón Digital” Data Base: some case studies

Abstract

The aim of this essay is to show critical potentialities of Calderón Digital, a database of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s theater, focusing on aspects such as spatial, temporal and metrical changes, or scenes changes, as turning points in the synopsis. By carefully considering these characteristics, we can go beyond the controversy about metrical or spatial segmentation, and discover some interesting ways of articulating dramatic sequences with regard to space and time, that appear to be typical of Calderón’s theater.
